Who Is Billy Connolly?

Billy Conolly was born on 24 November 1942 at 69 Dover Street in Anderston, Glasgow. He is the only son and second child of his parents. His mother left them to his father when he was still a child.

  • As of 2017, Glasgow has at least three large-scale gable murals commissioned by BBC Scotland and one metalwork mural commissioned by Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association depicting him.
  • In November 2019, The Glasgow Times named Connolly as The Greatest Glaswegian as determined by a public poll.

In 1969, Connolly married his first wife, Iris Pressagh. The marriage lasted 16 years. They separated in 1981 and divorced in 1985. They had two children together.

Since 1989, he has been married to Pamela Stephenson. They have three children. The couple currently live in Florida.

Yes, Billy Connolly is very ill. The former comedian and actor suffers from dementia, an advanced form of Parkinson’s disease.

Billy was first diagnosed with the sickness in 2013. He has since been receiving medication for the ailment. In January 2019, he disclosed that its advance may force his retirement from performing.

Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder that causes unintended or uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination. Symptoms usually begin gradually and worsen over time.

What is Billy Connolly’s medical condition?

As stated above Billy suffers from dementia, an advanced stage of Parkinson’s disease.

After receiving an award at the 2022 BAFTA TV Awards, Billy made comments on his sickness. “Life is good. I haven’t been on the stage for about two years. This is kind of nice. It suits me,” Billy told BAFTA.

He added: “My wife puts on my clothes in the morning and takes them off at night. It is a jolly life. I have got no complaints.”
